iOS 5 Update
Make sure you sync your device first before clicking the 5.0 update button.
An hour to download (about 774MB worth of cyber-bits) and another 10 minutes to backup. Got this message...
The iPad "xxx" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (3200).
Got to spend sometime to investigate and hopefully able to update 4.3 to 5.0.
According to Apple helpdesk, told to try this out...
Disconnect other USB devices = other USB devices may interfere with the communication between iTunes and the iOS device. Follow these steps to resolve an issue caused by other USB devices:
1.Disconnect all USB devices (hubs, printers, scanners, card readers, cameras, and so on).
2.Connect only your keyboard and mouse.
3.Connect the iOS device directly to the computer using the white Apple 30-pin Dock Connector cable that came with your iOS device. If your stand-alone display has a USB connection, disconnect all USB devices from it. Do not plug into a USB port on the front of your computer; plug directly into a rear USB 2.0 port.
4.If you are using an iOS-device dock, disconnect the dock and plug the cable directly into the iOS device.
5.Restart the computer.
6.Launch iTunes and try restoring.
Ok - this did not work. Looks like it was stuck in "recovery" mode.
So since, the iOS 5 is considered among the most significant in iOS's history, includes 200 new features including a new notification system, iMessage, Newsstand, Reminders, Twitter integration, etc, etc... I decided to do a DFU restore.
http://youtu.be/x6FSHAp6fvk - Shutdown and then "press & hold on/off and home button" for 10 secs.
Ok - this worked. After putting it in DFU mode, it was able to continue with the installation of the iOS5 (click the restore button) and thereafter automatically restoring my data.
Five Things I Like...
1. iMessage - Messaging finally arrived on an iPad. Limited to messaging to fellow iOS 5 users (Message with potentially 100 Million iPhone Users and 20 Million iPad Users).
2. Split Keyboard - makes it very easy to type using thumbs in landscape modes. To split, just use your thumb to drag apart the virtual keyboard. To merge, drag together the split keyboard.
3. Tab Browsing With Safari - Easy to switch between web pages.
4. Big Fonts For Mail, Contacts, Messages, Notes - Settings > Accessibility > [Vision] Large Text > 24pt text, 32pt text.
5. iCloud Contacts > Contacts can be sync automatically with iCloud, which can be access via the web. Don't need key copies of contacts on PC.
