Windows NT Hydra server

Windows NT Hydra server is a multiuser server core that provides the ability to host multiple, simultaneous client sessions on Windows NT Server 4.0, and on future versions of Windows NT Server. Windows NT Hydra is capable of directly hosting compatible multiuser client desktops running on a variety of Windows-based and non-Windows based hardware. Standard Windows-based applications do not need modification to run on the Windows NT Hydra Server, and all standard Windows NT based management infrastructure and technologies can be used to manage the client desktops. In this way, corporations can take advantage of the rich choice of applications and tools offered by today's Windows environment.

Hydra was later renamed as Microsoft Windows Terminal Server 4.0  (WTS4) was launched in April 1998 along with a group of Windows Terminals from various vendors. WTS "Hydra" will use a proprietary Microsoft protocol known as Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to communicate with its Windows and Windows CE-based clients. Subsequent it accessible with Apple Mac OSX and UNIX clients.

Microsoft Windows Terminal Server was later rename as Terminal Service from Windows Server 2000 onwards.
