How to Enable or Disable AutoRun - Safer way

Much easier and safer way to disable Autoplay on Windows XP machine is to use Group Policy Object Editor or GPEDIT for short. If you correctly set it, you should hear (ding dong) sound when you plug in USB drive into your PC and nothing will happens.

From the Start Menu, click Run and enter

GPEDIT.MSC

Click OK

Select "Administrative templates / System"

Select bottom tab - "Standard", and scroll down the right panel and look for "Turn off Autoplay".

GPEDIT RUN

Double Click on "Turn off Autoplay" in the right pane:

Disable Auto Run

Select "Enable" and click Apply then click OK.
