Naiva Computer Virus

An infected e-mail is going around with the main theme being, Bird flu outbreak in North America or What is avian influenza. Donīt open it, has the Naiva Computer Virus in it. The Naiva Computer Virus is a macro Trojan that passes itself off as a Word document containing information about the bird flu epidemic. Once opened, Naiva drops the Trojan detected as Ranky Trojan. Naiva Computer does not infect other Word documents, its main function is to bear a copy of Ranky Trojan, in order to drop it on the affected computer.

The Ranky Trojan takes over a computer in the background and uses the machine as a proxy without the user's knowledge. The malware opens a random TCP port and UDP port 10100. It affects all versions of Windows after 3.1 but not UNIX/Linux or Macintosh systems.

Besides coming in as an e-mail, Naiva Computer Virus other means of transmission used include, among others, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, email messages with attached files, Internet downloads, FTP, IRC channels, peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks, etc.
