W32/Sdbot-DO, Rbot - Win32 worm
 
Detection

W32/Sdbot-DO is an IRC backdoor Trojan and network worm which copies itself into the Windows System32 folder as NAVSCAN32.EXE and sets the following registry entries to ensure that it is executed automatically upon restart:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
NAVSCAN32.EXE = NAVSCAN32.exe

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\
NAVSCAN32.EXE = NAVSCAN32.exe

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
NAVSCAN32.EXE = NAVSCAN32.exe

W32/Sdbot-DO spreads by scanning IP address ranges for shared drives on the Internet and copying itself into them.

This worm permits a malicious user remote access to an infected computer via
the IRC network. 
 
Recovery

Please follow the instructions for removing worms.  You will also need to edit the following registry entries, if they are present. Please read the warning about editing the registry.   At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.  Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entries:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
NAVSCAN32.EXE = NAVSCAN32.exe

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\
NAVSCAN32.EXE = NAVSCAN32.exe

and delete them if they exist.

Each user has a registry area named HKEY_USERS\[code number indicating user]\. For each user locate the entry:

HKU\[code number]\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run\NAVSCAN32.EXE = NAVSCAN32.exe

and delete it if it exists.

Close the registry editor.
