Re-Register the OLE32.DLL to Re-Populate the Registry

To re-register the OLE32.DLL:

Click Start, Run and in the Open field type:
CMD
In the command window type:
Regsvr32.exe %Windir% System32 Ole32.dll
A RegSvr32 popup error states: "DllRegisterServer in C: WINNT System32 ole32.dll succeeded"
Click OK.

Here´s the easy way: download McAfee Superdat

http: download.mcafee.com us updates superDat.asp?real=0

It wil not repair your auto-update, but atleast your virus-definitions are up-to-date

To fix the FrameworkManifest.xml:

* Obtain FrameworkManifest.xml from another machine
or
* Delete the FrameworkManifest.xml and reinstall the Common Management Agent

Obtain FrameworkManifest.xml from Another Machine

1. Locate another VirusScan 8.0i machine where the updates are working without error.
2. Copy the FrameworkManifest.xml from the Common Framework directory.
NOTE: The file is located in the following path:
x: Documents and Settings All Users Application Data Network Associates Common Framework
3.
4. Copy the file to a portable media or network share that can be accessed by both machines. Click Start, Run and type:
services.msc
5. Locate and right-click on the McAfee Framework Service and select Stop.
6. Copy the FrameworkManifest.xml to the Common Framework directory.
7. Locate and right-cilck on the McAfee Framework Service and select Start.
8. Proceed to update the product.

Solution2:

Delete the FrameworkManifest.xml and reinstall the Common Management Agent.

It is necessary to delete the file FrameworkManifest.xml because it may not be removed or replaced when an uninstall re-install is undertaken.

1. Reboot the machine then delete the FrameworkManifest.xml file.
NOTE: File is located in the following path:
x: Documents and Settings All Users Application Data Network Associates Common Framework
2. Re-install the Common Management Agent ePO agent.

It´s the Mcafee EPO agent. From the EPO server you can set a policy to restrict the maximum processor utilisation. We had the same problem here on our XP machines, our Win2K ones were working fine. Weird.

Does anyone know for sure what FrameworkService.exe is? Is this a keystroke logger? Why does it take up a huge amount of CPU on one XP machine, but hardly any on another (nearly identical) machine?
