Fix "Windows Resource Protection could not start..." when trying to run SFC

When trying to run SFC /scannow via CMD.exe (as Administrator) on a Vista Machine,  Vista display "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." and stopped.

Try enabling the following services:

  • Windows Modules Installer (Service Name: msiserver).
  • Windows Installer (Service Name: TrustedInstaller).

I think you´ll find these are named back-to-front:-

Windows Modules Installer (Service Name: msiserver).
Windows Installer (Service Name: TrustedInstaller).

Should be:-

Windows Installer (Service Name: msiserver).
Windows Modules Installer (Service Name: TrustedInstaller).

Hope this helps someone!

Is there a way to enable or disable a service through the recovery console in a Vista machine that won´t boot?

Vista won´t allow me to run SFC.
